TriExercise - Events Calendar

Listed below are some running, triathlon and other endurance events in Wales, along with some key events from around the UK. If we've missed something, or you'd like to have your own event listed then please let us know. By subscribing to the RSS new feed for either the individual sports or the whole events calendar you can receive updates as soon as we make them!

8th May 2010: Carten 100- Cardiff to Tenby!

Cardiff to Tenby, 100 miles, 1 day! The aim is to give people a challenge, a fun day out and, if you're still able, a few drinks in Tenby afterwards! It raises funds for Ty Hafan and raised over £10,000 in 2010.

6th June 2010: Dragon Ride

With two distances available, 80 miles and 118 miles, this ride takes in the Brecon Beacons, the Swansea Valleys and the Rhondda! This event is for anybody who wants a serious challenge.

13th June 2010: Tour of Pembrokeshire

The Tour of Pembrokshire offers two challenges- a 64 mile course and a 116 mile course. Both routes offer everything from towering climbs, terrifying descents and long sections where the speed can really be piled on. This events was an immediate hit in it's first year and continues to grow year on year.

11th July 2010: The Devil RIde

Up there as one of the toughest cyclosportives around. The early climbs are nothing when compared to the Devil's Staircase (Darren still has nightmares about it...) which is followed quickly by yet more climbing! This brutal, but very rewarding event, is organised perfectly and is a must for any cyclist!

21st March 2010: Llanelli Duathlon (5km, 29km, 5km)

This race is set on the Millennium Coastal Path in Llanelli which offers a traffic free run while the ride out to Kilgetty and back is very fast. This race is often a first outing of the season for many and is always well attended.

11th April 2010: Pembrokeshire Duathlon (5km, 20km, 2.5km)

This will be the third running of this event and it grows in popularity every year. Starting from Neyland, both runs are flat and fast and, after a brief climb, the bike course is even faster!

15th May 2010: Gower Olympic Distance Duathlon (10km run, 40km cycle, 5km run)

15th May 2010: Gower Sprint Duathlon (5km, 20km, 2.5km)

16th May 2010: Pembrokeshire Tristars Aquathlon

A swim followed by a run. Various distances depending on age (from 8-16 years old). Based at Pembroke Leisure Centre.

12th June 2010: Pembrokeshire Tristars Triathlon

Swim, bike, run of various distances dependent on age (8-14 years old). Based at Pembroke Leisure Centre

3rd July 2010: 70 Wild Miles, Bala, North Wales

Three stage race, for teams or individuals. Teams of 3 can complete one section each, you don’t need to be a professional triathlete to take part! Event consists of a 47 mile cycle, 10 mile kayak, and 13 mile run. All proceeds go to Tenovus

20th March 2010: Rhayader Round the Lakes 20 miles

This ever popular race has some of the most beautiful scenery of any race in the UK. The 20 mile route features some very famous hills and will push you to your limit. The event, however, still retains a friendly atmosphere and jelly babies/mars bars on the way around. There's a good reason why people travel from all over the UK for this event.

27th March 2010: Endurancelife Pembrokeshire Coastal Marathon/Half Marathon/10k

This race forms part of the Endurancelife 7 race series. The general opinion of the race last year is that it was tough! Those of you who know the coastal path will realise this. Those of you who aren't are in for a surprise!

18th April 2010: Llanelli Marathon

The first running of the Llanelli Marathon promises to be a great day out. Set on the traffic free Millennium Coastal path, this course is ideal for first time marathon runners looking to take on the challenge as well as the more experienced runners looking for a pb.

1st May 2010: Redkite Challenge Weeked, 11.5 miles

Near Aberystwyth, Sialens Y Barcud Coch is a Multi-terrain challenge over 11 miles (walk 8 miles) through the beautiful setting of Nant y Arian. The course is challenging with steep climbs through forestry and over rough tracks on the moors. The race takes in beautiful views of Blaenmelindwr lake, Pumlumon and a vast expanse of forestry using the forest trails, tracks and paths.

2nd May 2010: Ras y Diafol 18 miles

Near Aberystwyth, for the non-Welsh speakers the race title translates as "The Devils Race". This is the second part of the weekends racing and is altogether more demanding than Sialens Y Barcud Coch. It is 18 miles (walk 12 miles) and can either be run as a one off challenge or as a relay in teams of three.

9th May 2010: Race for Life- Haverfordwest

Race for Life 5k. Run in aid of Cancer Reasearch UK with up to 1800 women who will walk, jog or run. These days are always fun, offer a great way into running and are for a very deserving cause.

6th June 2010: TROTS Dambuster

This is the clockwise race around Llys-y-Fran Dam. Despite the summer weather, this is always a mud bath but is always great fun! The hilly, off-road setting make for a tough race, though the scenery makes up for it. The on-site cafe is a great place to recover afterwards!

13th June 2010: Race for Life- Llanelli

Race for Life 5k. Run in aid of Cancer Research UK, join up to 3100 other women while they walk, jog or run the route. Do your bit for a cause very close to everyone's heart and have a great day out too!

17th June 2010: Llanelli 5k- Race 1

20th June 2010: Llanelli 10k

This traffic free route is run on the Millennium Coastal Path and is flat and fast making it perfect for first time 10k-ers and experienced runners looking for a pb. Well organised!

15th July 2010: Llanelli 5k- Race 2

17th July 2010: Preseli Bluestone Challenge

This 14 mile fell race is held on the Preseli mountain range in Pembrokeshire. The challenging terrain takes in some of the most stunning views in the UK. Flawless organisation make this event perfect for all runners.

25th July 2010: Tenby 10k

Starting and finishing at the leisure centre, the 2010 running of the event will be using chip timing. This event is well attended and always has a strong field.

12th August 2010: Llanelli 5k- Race 3

5th September 2010: Cardiff 10k

This 10k course around Cardiff city centre is organised in aid of Kidney Research Wales. It is well organised with a great atmosphere, a goody bag for all finishers and a 2km for other family members to take part in too!

26th September 2010: Dale 1/2 Marathon and 10k

Set in the seaside village of Dale, Pembrokeshire, this event is a real gem in the calendar and a great way to finish the season. With a field of just 300 athletes this event has a wonderful atmosphere and is very popular with top athletes and total novices alike! Both distances take in the challenging climb to St. Anne's head before the 1/2 Marathon heads off onto a challenging loop through the surrounding countryside.

17th October 2010: Cardiff Half Marathon

This very popular half marathon around the Welsh capital is a great event for first timers looking to get around and experienced athletes looking for a pb. The route takes in some of Cardiffs most famous landmarks and passes through Cardiff bay. A very scenic, great spirited event.

25th October 2010: Dublin Marathon

Popular city marathon based in Dublin.The fast course is ideal for anyone looking for a PB, whilst the sights also make it ideal for a first time marathon runner. This event is well organised, well supported and offers a great opportunity for a break to Ireland!

30th October 2010: Snowdonia Marathon

In 2007 this event won Runners World Marathon of the Year- a somewhat surprising honor for what is also one of the toughest! It starts at 10:30 on the Saturday, allowing many competitors to make a weekend of it, staying in some of the best scenery in Wales!

5th November 2010: Pembrokeshire Coast Challenge

3 Marathons in 3 days! Following the Pemrokeshire cost path from Dale to Pwllgwaelod. The total miles is 78 and the challenge is set over 3 days.

12th December 2010: Aberystwyth 10k

This fast 10k around Aberystwyth is a must for any runner looking for a pb. Well organised and very popular.

19th June 2010: Great East Swim

Based at Alton Water in Suffolk this well organised lake swim is the ideal way to to make your way into open water swimming!

21st August 2010: Great Scottish Swim

This 1 mile open water swim is set in Strathclyde Country Park, home of the Strathclyde Triathlon and a beautiful setting for this event.

24th September 2010: 2.4 Mile Swim, Tenby

24th April 2010: Llandovery Triathlon

Great triathlon for beginners and experienced athletes alike. The 400m swim is followed by a challenging 20km bike ride, and a 5km run around the town.

2nd May 2010: Pembrokeshire Triathlon CLub Triathlon (400m swim, 15.5km bike, 3.2km run)

Ideal beginner event. Based at Haverfordwest leisure centre the event is well-organised, friendly and has a great buffet afterwards!

16th May 2010: Blaenafon Triathlon (800m, 28 mile, 7 mile)

The Blaenafon Triathlon is generally considered as being one of the toughest triathlons around! It's a very well organised, long-standing event, but prepare to hurt!

23rd May 2010: Llanelli Waterside Triathlon (750m, 28km, 5km)

The Llanelli Triathlon is perfect for athletes of all abilities. The course is immensely quick for athletes looking to clock a good time while the small lake offers a great first venture into open water triathlon for beginners. This well organised event is very popular with athletes from all over the country!

5th June 2010: Brecon Triathlon (400m, 20km, 6km)

After a 1 year absence this popular event is back. The 400m pool swim is followed by a varied 20km bike ride and a 6km run. This event is designed to have something for everyone and has always been very popular in the past. Early entry is advised!

13th June 2010: Bala Middle Distance Triathlon (2000m, 78.5km, 20km)

This race has consistently appeared in the "Top Ten Toughest Triathlon" list and deserves it! Like all of the Wrexham Triathlon Club events, it's run expertly and you can be sure to have a great, if somewhat long, day!

26th June 2010: Mumbles Triathlon (750m, 21/32km, 2.5/5km)

Two distances available- "750m swim, 32km bike, 5km run" or, alternatively, "750m swim, 21km bike, 2.5km run"

3rd July 2010: TriExercise Pembrokeshire Coastal Triathlon (1500m swim, 43km bike, 10km run)

We're proud to be the title sponsors in the second year of the ressurection of this event. The sheltered swim is followed by a challenging bike course. The run then follows the scenic coastal path out of Broad Haven and is fairly undulating... once you've climbed the sizeable hill near the beginning! After a massive success last year this event can only get bigger and better.

24th July 2010: Gower Peninsula Distance Triathlon (750m, 24km, 5km)

2008 was the first year that this event was brought back and it won the British Triathlon Event of the Year! Set to be bigger and better in 2010 this race takes part on the stunning Gower Peninsula near Swansea. With a BBQ and a live band on the evening after the race, along with kiddies races, this race makes for a great weekend away for families and groups alike!

25th July 2010: Tuska Triathlon (750m, 22km, 5km)

This event is based in Porthcawl near Bridgend and is very well established. Popular with triathletes from all over Wales and further it's a great event to keep you sharp ahead of the big September races!

8th August 2010: Ironman UK

The premier long distance event on the UK calendar! Based in Bolton, the two lap swim is followed by a rolling swom before the grandstand finish on the marathon. Ironman racing is what triathlon is all about!

28th August 2010: The Big Woody Triathlon: 3.8km, 180km, 42km

The Big Woody Triathlon is a long distance (Ironamn distance). Based in the Forest of Deadn, anybody who's cycled up that way will tell you one thing- tough! This is not an event for the feint of heart! A great, well organised race, you get the long-distance experience without the massive costs involved with the highly branded events.

12th September 2010: Bala Standard Distance Triathlon (1.5k, 40k, 10k).

This is a tremendously well organized race. Based at the beautiful Llyn Tegid in Bala, the lake swim is followed by a very fast bike course. Having been established for many years, this race attracts athletes from all over and is ideal for anybody who's either looking for a pb at this distance or simply looking to get around their first standard distance race.
