TriExercise - Our People

Welcome to the section about some of the people involved with TriExercise. We are all "active" athletes ourselves and below is our chance to say a little more about ourselves, our ambitions and achievements in the world of running and triathlon. Also featured are some blogs where we can share with you all the blood, sweat and chlorine as we strive for glory! Included is Luke's blog as he battles with being a student triathlete juggling the mischief, mal-nourishment and utter poverty that it brings! For more information about some other Triexercise people click here.

If you've got an interesting story you'd like to share with us, or think you have what it takes to be part of the TriExercise team then send us a message and we'll see what we can do.

Luke Watson

Occupaton: Student...:-)

Entry into triathlon: I was a swimmer for several years, but realised I wasn't actually good enough and was looking for a new challenge when I was 15. I discovered the new triathlon club in Pembrokeshire, tried a couple of races and was hooked!

2009 Goals: make the British team for a triathlon or duathlon championships... the World Triathlon Championships is on the Australian Gold Coast next year, so that would be nice! I've been close to the British team over the last couple of years, so would like to make the next step up to a major championship team.

Favourite motivational tunes: Don't Stop Me Now by Queen is good for getting the rhythm going especially in the pool, anything by the Arctic Monkeys & The Fratellis is good as well. For chilling afterwards, it's Scouting for Girls or The Feeling.

Favourite post training snack
: Definitely cereal and cold milk, lots of carbs and protein and it tastes good too, so it's great for replenishing after I've slogged out a hard session!

Favourite training session: Interval reps on the bike e.g. 20/15/10mins hard with 5mins recovery followed immediately by 6x1km reps on the road at quicker than 5km race pace with 1.5min recovery. I've got a love/hate relationship with this one: it's a great session but it hurts so much!

Least favourite training session: Strength and Conditioning sessions- a necessary evil! They're vital for injury-prevention but that doesn't make me like them any more!

Best thing about triathlon: Those days when it all just clicks and everything is smooth and effortless! You're flying and it just doesn't seem to hurt...those are the moments that make all the training worthwhile.

Worst thing about triathlon: The days when it doesn't!
